Armstrong offers an ever changing class schedule generally dealing with working with metal and wire. This page will list those classes by subject matter, date of class, a brief description, and the cost of the class. Pre-registration & a deposit of 1/2 the listed fee are required for all Armstrong classes, with the balance due on the first day of class. Classes require a minimum of 3 students .Registration will close 2 days prior to the class. Cancellation refunds will only be available with 24 hour notice. If you have a group of 3 or more, but find that our schedule does not fit yours, please inquire about special class arrangements. |

Basic Soldering with Lesley Di Piazza: Whether you are new to soldering or looking to increase your skills, this class is for you. Lesley will guide you through the theory & practice of butane & acetylene torch soldering. Students will get hands-on experience in class & leave with the knowledge & confidence to solder at home. This class fills quickly, so sign up early! One session, 3 hours. $50.00 plus supplies (approximately $5) Wednesday March 3, 6-9 p.m. OR Wednesday April 21, 6-9 p.m.
Keum-Boo with Lesley DiPiazza: Explore the ancient Korean technique of fusing pure gold onto a silver surface. This class is a great introduction to goldsmithing & is for anyone who loves the look of gold, but not the price. Students will leave class with multiple finished projects of their own design. Beginning & advanced students are welcome! One session, 2 hours.
Saturday April 17, 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Freeform Wire Wrap I with Sig Lawson: This class is a great introduction to freeform wire wrapping, & has quickly become a favorite among our students! Between Sig’s fresh design ideas & her “no rules” approach, you are sure to have fun & come away with a plethora of unique jewelry pieces. One session, 2 hours. $40.00 plus supplies (approximately $12) Wednesday March 17, 6-8 p.m. Introduction to Metals, Tools & Techniques with Lesley Di Piazza: This is the perfect class if you are new to the jewelry & metalsmithing world, or just want to enhance your fundamental skill set. Among the basic techniques that will be covered are sawing, drilling, hole punching, filing, sanding, & dapping. Tool care & maintenance will also be addressed. Students will gain valuable hands-on experience & practice. One session. 3 hours.

Freeform Bezels with Lesley DiPiazza: Expand your stone setting proficiency by learning to fabricate your own bezel cups. Students will learn to set irregular or free form cabochons as well as customize their bezels with a multitude of variations in the fabrication process. BASIC SOLDERING SKILLS REQUIRED. Maximum of 4 students. NEW CLASS: Forged Cuff & Bangle Bracelets with Sig Lawson: Learn to manipulate metal using a hammer & come away with both a simple & elegant cuff bracelet & a classy hook closure bangle. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: Flex Shaft Boot Camp with Mary Kernahan: Whether you have a nice new flex shaft that you don’t quite know what to do with, or are still considering purchasing one, this is the class you’ve been waiting for. Learn how to utilize this multifunctional tool to save yourself time & generally “make life easier” in your studio. Students who have their own flex shaft (and hanger) may wish to bring them along. Class size is limited to 6 students. One session, 3 hours.

Silver Granulation with Lesley DiPiazza: Granulation is a decorative metalsmithing process of applying tiny beads, or granules, in decorative patterns on the surface of metal using eutectic bonding. Students will leave class with multiple finished projects of their own design. Beginning & advanced students are welcome. One session, 3 hours. $55.00 plus supplies (approximately $15 w charcoal block, or $7.50 w/o block) Saturday March 20, 2-5 p.m. NEW CLASS: How To Make Your Very Own Endcaps! with Lesley DiPiazza: This class is designed to answer (in depth!) the most frequently asked question of 2009, “How do I make an end-cap?”. This class will be filled with tips and tricks to improve your technical abilities and studio efficiency. Basic soldering skills required. One session, 3 hours.

Forged Wire Earrings with Sig Lawson: Forging is one of the most basic & useful metal working techniques. Sig will share her tips for using hammers & pliers to shape, forge, & form wireworks into the next dimension! Students will leave class with multiple examples & finished projects. One session, 2 hours. $40.00 plus supplies (approximately $6) Wednesday March 31, 6-8:30 p.m.
Cold Connections with Dan Neville: Learn how to permanently attach different pieces of metal, or heat-sensitive materials to metal, without soldering. We will explore the traditional metalsmithing joinery elements of: rivets, tabs & stables, as well as their endless contemporary variations. One session, 3 hours.

Silver Reticulation with Lesley DiPiazza: Learn how to create beautiful, ornate, & organic textures on metal with your torch. Reticulation utilizes irregular expansion & contractions rates between different metal silver alloys. In this class you will learn how to control this technique to create beautiful & unique compositions of texture. One session, 3 hours. $55.00 plus supplies (recommended 2x2” 20G sterling sheet, approximately $20) Wednesday April 7, 6-9 p.m.
Forged Wire Pendant with Sig Lawson: Forging is one of the most basic & useful metal working techniques. Sig will share her tips for using only hammers & pliers to expand your wire working skills in this fun & interesting class. Along with your new skills you will come away with a beautiful new pendant. Intro to Etching with Lesley Di Piazza: Introduce yourself to acid etching in this exciting class. Students will learn how to use a variety of resists including PNP blue. PNP blue allows you to transfer any black and white image to your metal for etching. Basic forming and finishing techniques will also be covered, & students will come away with a beautiful one of a kind piece of jewelry. One session, 3 hours. $50.00 plus supplies (approximately $7.00) Wednesday April 28, 6-9 p.m.
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: Tube Set Soldered Earrings with Mary Kernahan: Tube setting is a great way to add faceted stones to your designs. In this class, using sterling silver & cubic zirconias, you will become acquainted with several techniques for tube setting, & will have fun while making yourself some classy earrings to boot.
